PCC Hydrogen began inside a catalyst company.
Pyrochem Catalyst Company spent years developing advanced catalyst materials for applications ranging from emissions mitigation to fuel reforming. That expertise pointed to a larger opportunity: a practical way to produce clean hydrogen from ethanol. In December 2022, PCC Hydrogen was established as a standalone company to commercialize that technology.
- The process
By using ethanol as a hydrogen carrier, PCC Hydrogen produces hydrogen on site without relying on hydrogen pipelines, long-haul transport, or large new grid loads: a distributed clean-energy platform for mobility, power generation, and industrial applications.
- Where we are
We have begun filling the project pipeline, with several fast-follower projects now in development across the U.S. and U.K.
- Technology
Patented ethanol-to-hydrogen process using the PyroCat™ catalyst platform.
- First facility
Cloverdale, Indiana, a repeatable energy ecosystem.
- End markets
Hydrogen, electricity, and industrial co-products from a single site.
- Validation
NLR-co-authored lifecycle study; patented catalyst, reactor technology and production process.
