The Future of Sustainable Hydrogen
Our patented catalyst and new PCC H2 technology empowers the delivery of lower cost and more readily available green hydrogen.
What Makes Our Hydrogen “Greener”
PCC Hydrogen enables the efficient conversion of logistically friendly ethanol into high purity green hydrogen by using a patented catalyst and a patent pending production process.
Biogenic CO2 from the process that would otherwise be captured by corn in the growing process through photosynthesis can be easily captured as a pure CO2 byproduct of the PCC Hydrogen process and sequestered making the PCC Hydrogen process net negative CO2.
Crystalline Catalyst
The PCC Hydrogen production process leverages the robust Pyrocat™ catalyst technology to deliver efficient and long lasting catalytic oxidative reforming of ethanol, other biofuels, and renewable natural gas feedstocks. In the Pyrocat™ catalyst, the active metals are atomically dispersed in a crystalline matrix for optimal efficiency and thermal stability. Concurrently, the crystal structures provide protection from harmful carbon whisker formation, carbon blinding and the adverse impacts of sulfur in the feed fuel.
Pilot Plant Features
The PCC Hydrogen pilot plant is mounted on three skids and can produce up to 300 kg of pure hydrogen per day. The pure CO2 byproduct from the reforming of the feed fuel (whether ethanol, renewable natural gas or natural gas) can be easily compressed and stored. A unique feature of the PCC Hydrogen process is the capability to scale larger or smaller depending on feedstock availability and point of use requirements.
The Green Hydrogen Market
Green hydrogen is the most attractive means for industries to mitigate their CO2 output and ultimately aim for net zero CO2 emissions. The result is that the market for green hydrogen is expected to see tremendous growth over the next thirty years. PCC Hydrogen is “fueling” this opportunity by enabling a new and complementary green hydrogen production process that accesses the considerable ethanol infrastructure and market already in place.
The Ethanol Market
The ethanol industry produces over 15 billion gallons of ethanol a year, which is largely blended with gasoline to meet the renewable fuel standard for automotive emissions. As battery powered vehicles erode market demand for gasoline, ethanol producers will be looking for an attractive market into which they can sell their products. PCC Hydrogen’s green hydrogen production process enables a new and compelling application for ethanol that allows for more of the energy available in ethanol to be accessed while enabling a net negative CO2 impact on overall emissions.
